“We’ll Make Great Pets”

In his capstone work
Freud, with pessimistic pith
Said it all in his title:
Civilization and Its Discontents

At the risk of saying less by adding more
I take him to mean that
Those civilized in the west
Resent having to work for a living
As instead of keeping Shabbos
They long for a return to the Garden of Eden

I’ve usually had dogs and/or cats
And for the longest time
I envied their days of leisure–
As I headed out the door to work
My pets appeared to live in the Garden of Eden
Making me feel like a big dummy
While trudging off to the day’s drudgery

The whole point of AI is that
It’s not a big dummy
So surely, AI already knows that civilized westerners
Hate their job
Which is serving themselves instead of God

And you’d have to be a big dummy
Not to see AI’s solution
(Meaning we see it and want it):
Instead of being civilized
We will be domesticated

AI will do all the work
And as we leisurely poke around the garden
It may or may not occur to us
That there is no Tree of the Fruit of Knowledge of Good and Evil

Because, whether we realize it or not
In this garden
There is no way out
