Interstate Love Poem
I will state the obvious sacrilege:
Hailing from sunny San Diego
Stone Temple Pilots was just as good at grunge
As talented; rocked as hard
As the Big 4 Seattle bands–
Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains
(Always in that order because Nirvana was coolest)
Now I will make the inevitable provocation:
Grunge was just a word
For our shared fantasy of Seattle
And since STP was the embodiment of Fantasy Seattle, if you will
Stone Temple Pilots was the only real Seattle grunge band
Trying to stick the landing with pith:
The Big 4 were in Seattle;
Stone Temple Pilots was of Seattle
