Men require 613 mitzvos to cleave to God
As tightly as God cleaves to them
Which is indivisibly
Women, born closer to God
Require just 599 mitzvos to cleave to God
As tightly as God cleaves to them
Which, it goes without saying
But needs to be said
Is indivisibly
Men and women cannot cleave to one another
And when they try they fail
Which is why there is so much heartache and divorce
They can each only cleave to God
Who holds men and women together
By crossing the yawning gap between them
Not with a bridge
(That would make it easy
And nothing between men and women is easy)
But with two infinite ladders that go forever up
And as we gaze into the distant heavens
It looks like the ladders get closer and closer
And the only way to know
If they will defy all logic
And someday meet
Is to climb together relentlessly
As two individuals placing one bet
That the ladders will eventually meet before God
Where man and woman discover
That their division was always intended
To bring them here
