Saying Is Believing

We disparage lip service
But it is the first step
Towards actual service
Because self-service is our unspoken agreement
 
What starts as lip service and living a lie
Becomes, through repetition
The actual service of living the truth
 
How does repeating the same words
Over and over again
Change human behavior?
 
The truth is written on our hearts
But by reading it aloud from a text
We make the truth accessible to the modern mind
Which thinks the heart
Is just for pumping blood to the brain
When the truth is
The brain’s job is exercising the heart
 
For unlike the mind
Whose job is thinking of how to do what the heart wants
The heart’s job is doing
 
I do say
The truth is always from the heart
