For years I sojourned as a humble inchworm
Hanging all my hopes
On one day emerging as a brilliant butterfly
For my moment in the sun
Inching ever forward towards the spotlight
Only to find that my misguided faith in the light
Had been rewarded nonetheless
For as the light receded I found myself
Enveloped in the expanding darkness
Still a worm, no wings to take flight
Staying right here, but now aglow with my very own light
And while the phoenix knows the glory of rising from the ashes
The glow-worm outshines him minus all camera flashes
