Chris Gaither

Frozen in Time and Place

There used to be two types of people in the world:
Those who wanted to
Go ahead and get it over with
And those who wanted to postpone the inevitable–
This enabled some degree of self-sorting in the queue
And things moved along
At the usual grudging pace

Now there is total agreement
To postpone getting it over with
And we’re all packed into the waiting room
Waiting for nothing
Which, needless to say
Has done little for our dispositions
But has definitively established our positions
(You can know a stationary object’s position and velocity
With absolute certainty)
Leaving all of us
Sitting ducks
