If We Just Retrieve What We’ve Already Learned, the Golden Age Will Be a Fait Accompli
Post-pandemic life is like being a child
Who comes home only to find
Her parents have replaced
Her obviously dead goldfish
With a new one
Assuming their child is either
Too dumb to notice
Or too passive not to go along with it
And, in any case
Unable to do anything about it
Yet consider the possibility
That she simply brings home a golden retriever
Gives it the same name as the dead goldfish
And, when confronted
Calmly explains:
“I learned it by watching you.”
