Power Is for Using on Behalf of Others, Not Having for Yourself, and We’ve All Been Had

In fragile civilizations
Power is used to acquire status
And status is just for decoration

In resilient civilizations
Self-sacrifice is recognized as the most powerful act of will
And status accrues to those with no interest in it

In our civilization
We’ve sacrificed the distinction between status and power
Eliding in obeisance to the Singularity
Leaving those in the seats of power
The weakest among us
