The Unconscious Is Spoken by the Unsaid
If you want to understand your enemy
And your enemies believe they love their enemy
You must learn to listen for the unsaid
You will hear them demanding
Of anyone who will listen:
Love your enemy
But what goes unsaid is that
Like everyone else
They fear their enemy
But unlike those they fear
Whose commandment to defend themselves
Takes fear as the seed of courage
Their denial of defense
Makes fear the guarantor of a failure
That, like all failure
Fails again and again
But this one always fails worse
Which makes them hate themselves
And the only solution is more denial
So, they keep talking about loving their enemy
While leaving unsaid
That they want him dead
And they will die trying to get what they want
In a futile effort to rid themselves of self-hate
By unleashing it into the world
It sounds like this peaceful chant:
“There is only one solution! Intifada revolution!”
And it looks like hating themselves
Doesn’t stop them from loving the enemy
Of their enemy
