The Facts on the Ground
When America was grouped by right and left
We could always meet in the middle–
This was called democracy
But those days are over
With America divided into
The in-group and the out-group
And in the middle sits a wall
Separating the inside from the outside–
This is called protecting democracy
It is beginning to feel inevitable
That the in-group will soon
Go all the way
And outlaw the out-group
In the name of freedom–
This is called lawfare
But just as inevitably
The outlawed out-group
Will defy their de jure subjugation
In favor of their de facto reconstitution–
I fear that this will be called warfare
