Eyeballs in a Vat

We’ve taken the mystery out of life
Which makes this a murder mystery
Because in choosing immortality
We are killing ourselves

More accurately, then
It is a case of murder-suicide
In which we kill off culture with the same poison
That makes our suicide pact a fait accompli

i.e. We sabotaged our body of work
By sacrificing our bodies
In exchange for pickling our brains in digital formaldehyde
To make them last forever

Only to find that digital formaldehyde
Works like sulfuric acid
Burning through everything
But our eyes

Leaving them intact for all time
So that we can always look each other in the eye
And reassure ourselves
No one else has a soul anymore either
