Often, we’d recall anecdotes
Juvenile stories, funny quotes
Humorous tall tales from our youth
Then realize the saddest truth
The players; they’re no longer here
No one to listen, laugh nor cheer
Predicament of growing old
As peers and friends cross the threshold
Seems like we’re in a foreign land
Brand new world hard to understand
Survivors, we’re burdened with guilt
For most of our days have been spilt
But it’s not over yet, no way!
More in store for our lives today
Tomorrow there will be sunrise
And tonight, full moon in the skies
Travel and adventure awaits
Go where our bucket list dictates
We’ll have more anecdotes to tell
To our kids, grandchildren as well
In the porch, in a rocking chair
The sun shining on our gray hair
Giggles around as they listen
And us feeling like it’s heaven
