He sat in his favorite rocking chair
And gazed at nature’s splendor with delight,
The sunlit fields, the sky beyond compare,
Filled up his soul with awe; a peaceful sight.
The garden below implodes with color
Stunning, brilliant, dazzling—for all to see
Gilded butterflies honeybees hover
While a cardinal watches from a tree
The hills rise high, adorned in cloudy veils
The evergreen woods whisper soft and low
Beyond, the ocean tells its ancient tales
A timeless blue, where winds and waters flow
A marvelous day made for reflection
A review of life to uplift the soul
Immersed in the beauty of creation
He found the world, at last, felt truly whole
He realized all that he’s ever done
Everything pales beside nature’s grandeur
His piddly, feeble self under the sun
Witness to eternity’s vast stature
Iniquitous, unworthy though he is
He’s been bequeathed this wonderful gift
The heavens, the earth and the seven seas
In humbleness, his heart begins to lift
With gratitude, he bows to his Maker
On bended knees, gives Him honor and praise
But it is the gift of life forever
What he truly desires, his faith ablaze
