The Dark Circle
I was always being reassured
that I was in
the circle of trust
but kept in the dark
as to my place in it
As my eyes
adjusted to the dark
I thought at first
that things were better
than I’d hoped–
I was in the inner circle–
until I saw that the circle
was in fact a ring
where I was alone
with no way out
