Desire

"Aphrodite is about lust and gluttony - the only two sins worth committing, in my opinion."
— Isabel Allende

With desire in his heart, he gazed at her
And imagined the taste of her luscious lips,
As he stroked and caressed her flowing hair!
Her face reminds him of a thousand ships

He adored her from afar; never felt worthy
To approach her and profess his love undying!
Perhaps when the world’s gone topsy-turvy,
He’d tell her all that his heart is whispering!

She’s blissfully unaware of his existence
Until one day she brushed him accidentally
And their eyes locked for more than a glance
She smiled brightly, as he blushed nervously!

He summoned his courage, mumbled an apology
Oh, she was gracious; and asked for his name
He turned beet red; muttered his name softly
She held out her hand; said she was to blame!

In such inauspicious start, a romance was born
An unlikely pairing, but an intense love affair
Aphrodite meets Hephaestus, object of scorn
Unlike the goddess, she brings him not despair!

For no truer love, ever seen in these parts
And no greater story ever been heard before
No lovelier lady has stolen men’s hearts
Aye! no luckier man, now and heretofore!
