The Weak and the Meek

Ecclesiastes 9:11 (KJV)
“I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.”

The race is not won by the swift nor the quick
And battles fought do not belong to the strong
Riches and mercies come to the weak and meek
As much as the most distinguished in the throng

The giant Goliath fell to the young boy David
Esther delivered the Jewish men in the kingdom
The slave Joseph became the governor of Egypt
And meek Moses led the whole nation to freedom

Even the least of men can have success in life
Time, chance and providence happen to them all
Therefore, no man despair whatsoever the stripe
For greater fortunes await the persevering soul

And any man though untrained can win the race
The match favors not men of perception and skill
The gentlest lambs will be heirs to heaven’s grace;
Victors are men steadfast in keeping divine will

Therefore, let the Pharisees of the world beware
And all the self-righteous hypocrites under the sun
For it is the sinful publican that He will spare
If he repents and follow the footsteps of the Son...
