Fire and Tenderness

When we fell in love
I don’t recall exactly
Matters not really
Wasn’t at first sight for sure
Amazingly love endures

We were childhood friends
Morphed to feuding teenagers
Then became lovers
What time did I gaze at her
Declared it’s us forever!

Was it in grade school?
She’s the smartest one in class
I struggled to pass
But a know-it-all she was
Annoying in all she does

Or was it high school?
She bloomed into a beauty
Bubbly and pretty
You can tell I was smitten
So were a dozen young men

Was it senior prom?
She’s in an exquisite gown
And I was a clown
But she treated me kindly
And dodged others graciously

Was it that summer?
Right after our graduation
Last summer in town
We said goodbye many times
Promised I’ll write her in rhymes

Was it years later?
Each other, we met by chance
Pleasing circumstance
It was pure joy we display’d
Perhaps true feelings betray’d

Thus began our tale
We started where we left off
Though first dates were rough
Then blossomed a real fondness
Full of fire and tenderness

Soon wedding bells rang
That was many years ago
Our love still aglow
In the twilight of our life
Few and far between is strife

‘Twas yesterday she confessed
She’s loved me since our first date
I smiled and grinned my best
I’ve adored her since she’s eight!

Loveliest girl I have seen
Then to now and in between
She’s still my Aphrodite
An ugly blacksmith, that’s me!

Even though written in the first person, it is not my story.  I am your neighborhood storyteller.  The story is fictional although there are many couples with similar stories.
