I Broke Something Beautiful

I broke something beautiful
I had prior commitments
I was not free
to live out
that fantasy
 
I broke something beautiful
she made my heart dance
but my card was full
we never had a chance
 
I broke something beautiful
now here I must live
to finish my life with one
who has nothing to give
 
I broke something beautiful
we two with no guile
would have made it to the end
a life full of tears and smiles
