Chris Gaither

If You Can Still Laugh, Then You Still Have a Chance to Accept the Truth (Unless You Are Laughing at Those Who Cleave to the Truth)

The truth, in fact, is not out there
It’s in here
And that echo you hear
Is where the truth, your heart, goes
Making efforts to reintroduce the truth
A complicated transplant procedure

Most often the transplant recipient
Reacts to the truth as a viral invasion
Rejecting the heart transplant
Having long since been rendered immune to the truth
By a constant exposure to what we want to be true
Which we call certainty

Laughter–
The sound of surprise
And the opposite of certainty–
Is the immunosuppressant required
To prep us for a successful transplant of truth

Laughter opens the space for the heart to reappear
And with it the love of God
