Refuge

"My dreams were all my own; I accounted for them to nobody; they were my refuge when annoyed - my dearest pleasure when free."
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

Portrait on the wall
His daughter when she was young
Big smile on her face
Now grown up married with kids
Living thousand miles away

Picture on his desk
Intricately silver-framed
He and his three kids
Must be twenty years ago
Keepsake from happier times

On the mantelpiece
Gilded antique ormolu
A gift from his son
A very special present
On his sixtieth birthday

Atop the fireplace
Vincent’s starry, starry night
A copy of course
A joint project with his wife
In a paint-wine shop in town

On a recliner
Dreamily comfortably
He sat mesmerized
All ‘round him blasts from the past
Good times! never the bad

The room’s his refuge
His fortress of solitude
To where he retires
When the world’s unwelcoming
And his soul needs sustaining!

Nice one brod. I just wish I have an extra room for that. Lol.

@Francisco Potato The poem is a little exaggerated of course. I don’t have a 🔥 fireplace in the room, nor an ormolu clock (I wish we did) but the little lies made the poem sing so to speak. 😊😊 Thank you for liking.

Great to sit, relax, reminisce, and think.

@Robert L. Martin Indeed! All of the above. Thanks

And what a nice song it is. A comforting sight to see the mementos and the memories of the moments in those spaces of love, inglenooks of life. Beautiful poem. Like. Thanks Brod.

@Nelson D Reyes Thank you.

Nice cover photo. Been thinking of buying a 10-acre lot and building a small two bedroom two bath and a perimeter porch (not too wide) for my last post on paradise earth. Get a horde of rescue dogs and let them have it around the lot. Ha! My last hooray!

As Adventists, we’re encouraged to flee into the hills before the end times, the time of troubles. Sim has been trying to convince me to buy property in the hills of Oklahoma. I told her I will be a fish out of water.

That’s an OK state. I am thinking anywhere /states in the Blue Ridge Mountains from Pennsylvania to Georgia. Maybe in the Great Smoky Mountains, Nc or in VA Shenandoah Valley. @Vic@Vic

We all need a refuge to make sense of our lives at times. Love the fireplace and Vincent's starry starry night. Nice poem, VIC!

Thank you @Barb. Yes Vincent’s starry night brings back very wholesome memories.

Sounds like such a nice place. We all need a place like that in our homes. Inviting, and peaceful with good memories. Love this one.

@Charlotte Thank you for liking. Yes definitely. Even Superman needs a Fortress Solitude! 👍😊😊

@Oyet Vincent Thank you for reading and liking this poem. And thanks for following me. 👍👍
