Ling’ring Mem’ries

“Bad memories were hard enough, but it was torture to be haunted by the good.”
Shelley Noble, Beach Colors

A Sonnet

Ling’ring mem’ries of moments together
Still excite and comfort her grieving heart
Lifting her spirit, she sees forever
Yet sink her soul, when recollections start

Her love blinds her to the reality
Their relationship is a one-way street
Dreams of a future, just a fantasy
Torch, she carries, simply unreturned heat

But women, though blind, have other senses
To recognize what’s futile and hollow
At long last, she sees through the pretenses
What awaits her future, none but sorrow

With a heavy heart she bids him farewell
Will she find true happiness? Time will tell

An old poem. Written seven years ago I located in a folder of an external drive. Don't really remember who I was writing about. Must be an old friend.
