The Storm’s Wake

And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.
Haruki Murakami

Suddenly without warning the storm struck
Upending all things standing in its path
Debris everywhere, the world gone amok

Houses and trees, no one was spared its wrath
Roofs and branches littered fields all around
Downed poles and wrecked cars in the aftermath

An eerie silence, just a horrid sound
As the world struggles to gain its bearing
Out there the landscape a lost battle-ground

Remarkably signs of life emerging
From the flotsam rubble of the storm’s wake
Soon things will normal be, quite comforting

For the sun shall rise, always at daybreak
Even though the night full of pain and heartache

Surely, this pestilence will be over. And we will resume our old lives. Hopefully, we'd still remember how it was. But this is a storm we will all remember for the rest of our lives.
