Robert L. Martin

Opus Number One

My maiden voyage into the heart of song,
My journey into the melodic world,
My empty parchment calling my name,
My opus hiding in my spirit
Dying to go out into view,
Dying to test the waters of harmonic bliss
That flows into the Biblical Garden,
The pure leading me to its dominion,
The good when good was all there was,
When aggression wasn’t even a dream,
My new opus rising from the good
And circulating around the spectrum of life,
Leaving cathartic footprints in the sand,
The moral condoned and
The immoral romanticized,
The turning of the wheels of passion,
The pure and the defiling,
The music of the mixture of the two,
My opus that I found within me,
That took me to the highest heaven
Where I felt the touch of divinity
As it brushed up against me
And put me into my new world,
That wrote my opus for me,
And all I did was hold the pen
As it guided us through the song.
