The Journey

“Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it.”
– Lao Tzu

Misadventures of a Water Droplet

Snow crystal melting then cascading
Into rills brooks and rivulets
White water on rocks splashing
Streams through fields of bluebonnets
Into the ocean, the waters churning
Whirlpools, eddies in river inlets
A long journey quite exhausting
Through many sunrises and sunsets

Back at sea the droplet joins a wave
Bouncing up and down for miles and miles
Through calm seas and tempests grave
Through shoals around tropical isles
Where adventures just for the brave
The blazing sun heats up erewhile
Vaporizes droplet riding the wave
Lifting it skyward into exile

Up the sky towards the flaming sun
The mist melded with a cloud passing
Soon more vapors joined the fun
Nimbus became dark and threatening
Winds accelerate; clouds on the run
Snow crystals from vapors forming
One snowflake fell, the snowstorm begun
A tall mountain top, gently landing!

Back on earth with other snowflakes
Waiting for spring thaw for next cycle
Hoping not to fall in frozen lakes
Where it can eternally idle
But ready to travel when spring breaks
Long journey to the estuarine tidal
Towards the sea beyond river intakes
To experience yet another upheaval!
