Phantom Heart

Inspired by the "Phantom Limb" by C. R, Stanger
Check out her other work in this site

She spoke with the tone of finality
Her words vicious brutal venomous dart
So unlike her yet it’s reality

That was years ago and they’ve been apart
But the dull nagging emptiness still hurts
For she’s stolen a big piece of his heart

The unbearable ache only got worse
A phantom heart, cut off, no longer there
An illusion! but that’s the greater curse

Hopeful he is, it won’t last forever
Sadly she latches to his heart and mind
Thus, nigh impossible to dislodge her

Memories, good and bad, she left behind
Tearing him apart well into the night
Sadistic torture, a fate most unkind

Sleepless stupor he feels in morning light
Hollow in his heart bigger with each day
He can see her face smiling out of spite

He must be rid of her without delay
Phantom heart heavily weighing him down
Heartless he must be! if alive he’ll stay

Live on each day an emotionless clown
Extricate this heart and relieve the pain
Paint the biggest smile, over the grim frown!

Time may heal, he’ll feel normal again
And the wretched years shall be forgotten

I was inspired to write this poem in "terza rima" and iambic pentameter. An older poem of poetry.
