Summer Night

"Life isn’t how you survive the thunderstorm, but how you dance in the rain."
Adam Young

The dark angry sky was split up in two
As a lightning bolt zigzagged from on high
Ripping an old oak tree with no ado
Soon after Thor’s hammer boomed in reply

Lightning flashes one after another
Fireworks electrify ebony sky
In a split second ominous thunder
Roaring barreling down from hills nearby

Then the heavens gushing, unabating
Deluge from an atmospheric river
Violent rain, dime-size hail, flash flooding
Darkness as the whole city lost power

For an eternity the streets went dark
And lightning strikes the only source of light
Each strike generates a jagged blue arc
Illuming but fracturing the black night

Then the winds picked up and twisters appeared
Swirling fallen leaves in sudden eddies
Funnel clouds formed up high, as many feared
But they further not tonight’s miseries

The storm calmed down in a couple of hours
Power restored; functional soon after
Flood waters ebbed, and people went outdoors
Clouds have parted, soon you can hear laughter

Just a typical Texas summer night
Severe thunderstorms roll in like clockwork
There’s damage, in the aftermath there’s blight
But it cools the night, nature’s handiwork
