Dusk casts a spell on fields of green
And the serene sea of metallic blues,
The cloudless sky turns deep purple
Just like the color of an old bruise…
The world fades to black as night falls
Awaiting the rise of the evening muse!
The strawberry moon does not disappoint
Slowly it rises above the distant hills
Adding excitement to the starlit heavens
With a promise of new intoxicating thrills!
But leaves rustle in the evening breeze
A prelude to dispiriting night chills…
Night shadows cloak the fields of grain
As moonlight strikes tall tree branches…
The patchwork of dark and darker grays
Shimmers slowly; as a tree branch dances
Its leaves frolic in the stiff breeze!
And unstoppable, the night advances…
Yes, it is calm and serene; but not quiet
A cacophony of night sounds permeate
Filling and suffusing the atmosphere;
Eerie sound from creatures that hibernate,
Waves crashing onto rocks on the shore
And crickets chirping as they celebrate!
But night regulates our circadian rhythms,
And while danger lurks in the dark night
Peace, rest and contentment can be had
In the chilly air, in the absence of light
The sounds of the night lull us to sleep
To dream of fantasies and Turkish delight!
