Passing Joy

Ralph Waldo Emerson: "We are always getting ready to live but never living“

A Sonnet

Last night of cruise. Tomorrow life restarts
Back to the mundane, the fun is over
Much needed, to reenergize our hearts
A fleeting solace; a passing lover

Until then, the next opportunity
To taste the sweetness life can still bestow
We’ll seize it, grasping moments joyously
A fleeting light to guide through all we know

We’ll squeeze life’s juice to the very last drop
And drink ambrosia as long as we can;
Though time may force this revelry to stop,
We’ll hold its sweetness, longer than it spans

Though moments fade, their echoes will remain,
A cherished balm for life’s enduring strain
