Forests in Bloom

“Fall colors are funny. They’re so bright and intense and beautiful. It’s like nature is trying to fill you up with color, to saturate you so you can stockpile it before winter turns everything muted and dreary.”
– Siobhan Vivian.

All the forests are in bloom
As cool weather sweeps the land
Birds in the air soar and zoom
Flying south to winter strand

At long last autumn is here
Earthy scent can’t be denied
In the fields, rolled hay appear
Fallen leaves blow far and wide

Hundred degree days no more
Sweaters in fashion again
Yes, linen white out the door
And flowered shorts down the drain

Fall colors are here to stay
Orange, red, yellow and brown
Till December anyway
When first snowstorm comes to town

Meantime let’s savor autumn
Apples salted caramel
Butterscotch and cinnamon
Masala chai and maple

A morning cup of latté
Zinfandel in the evening
Fitting welcome to the day
Wine to start the dreams rolling

Sadly autumn won’t last long
Dreadful winter will come soon
But let’s say our evensong
Perchance wake up mid of June
