she walked into the room
to rouse him from his sleep
nudged and kissed him,
got him ready for the trip
on the coastal highway
up north to sunny malibu
on a glorious cloud free sunday
with the sky so blue
twas a road trip
that has been planned in heaven
gentle sea breeze,
a brilliant sun, spring has broken
two travelers
who loved each other devotedly
enjoying a day together
for many years hopefully
she wore a blue blouse
a darker hue than the sky
over a long-sleeve blue shirt
nothing seemed a-wry
he matched her top
a blue shirt albeit a lighter shade
a more harmonized couple
the fates have not yet made
she drove her red convertible,
he was at her side
he couldn’t take his eyes off her
much as he tried
the midday sun lit her face
she looked so golden
he pinched himself repeatedly
to see if he was in eden
they stopped for lunch
at gladstone’s by the ocean
got a table by the window
away from the commotion
virgin mojito she got
salad and salmon they shared
a beggar’s purse they enjoyed
no apples been spared
a lady photographer approached
to take their picture
she looked gorgeous as always;
well! he looked mature
their picture was amazing
an opportune souvenir
of a day spent together
memories to keep so dear
they walked along the beach,
below the malibu cliffs
holding hands and writing
on the sand in hieroglyphs
throwing flat shiny pebbles
and watching them bounce
he lost repeatedly
he growled in a mocked flounce
for a couple of miles
they trudged along the shore
their arms around each other
till their feet got sore
couples with umbrellas
dotted the length of the beach
but he had eyes only for her
others are out of reach
back on the coastal highway
further north they drove
to see the famous malibu resort
called paradise cove
once there they walked around
but then she got upset
he was so insensitive
something he’ll always regret
as always, she forgave him
they kissed and made up
darkness came and while still full
it was time to sup
they sat side by side in a booth
holding hands tight
both hoping they’d stay together
each and every night
