Zoo

Leash by whip

Chain by leash

Whip by chain

The wordless blood falls as I do

Down,

Down

Down

Deeper, and farther

Hiding a brutal undoing under a gaunt twigless tree

The creatures are no longer the perfection they were tamed to be

The doves no longer fly through my sky’s

They run from my gates,

Blinded costumers and stole their gold from emptying pockets

The lion no longer roars

Its whimpers and whines,

Clawing its way out of sight lines,

Dumb with the cowards it once despised

These animals, these symbols

These perfectly crafted, dystopian outlooks crushed

Shattered in a comforting embrace that held on too tight

The doves were told to fly when they were older,

So, they snuck and silenced their pre-mature soaring

Until there was no child-like trust left in those cages

No solider left to fight my wars,

They were off being studied

Being monitored.

All because my establishment used to be beautiful

It used to have tigers, and elephants and panthers

These beasts used to live silently

Peace bounding off their cages

Serenity.

But now?

People gawk at my animals

The zookeeper abandoned what she once claimed was beloved

Her love was not unfavourited nor unyielding

It was conditional

Second best

So now, people ogle my creatures

Their eyes dance with my fauna

Laughter plaguing the open cages,

Bouncing from broken mirrors and old casts

Gruesome scars worth hysterical materialistic traumas

People said this was depressing

But, people ought not to be worried

As you are nothing but the onbringing that graced you

From being breathed in,

To being suffocatingly held,

And being spit out...

Doesn’t everyone feel this way?
