I hate fairytales
Unbelievable and unbecoming
Gauche and tacky
Unattainable
I long to experience that
The types of love that lasts
That flourishes and grows over time
Where flowers are bought
Dates are taken
Hands are held
A kiss on a forehead
A high five
A complement
But now?
Chivalry is dead
Being a gentleman isn’t cool
Being treated with respect is as rare as a diamond
You could walk to mars before finding a love like that
I cannot wish on a shooting star
My air too polluted
My mind too pessimistic
For if I tried, I fear I would believe
Believe that a star could fix humanity
Fix these boys
These girls
These people
Show them how to love
But alas it will not
Water can only weather the rock intermittently
A rose cant bloom in a storm
A scale will topple if tipped
And fairytales will demise if realistic
And so, no, I don’t hate fairytales
I hate that I’m not in a fairytale
