SISTERS II

They stand together—those three,
Like the birch, clumped outside her window—
Joined by a common root.

Different; yet the same
Bent by winds of time and
Flexible enough to weather a storm.

Each growing separate ways, but
Joined together forever by a common
Source which gives each strength.

How beautiful the three white birch,
In the dead of winter—stripped
Of the accouterments of summer,
Joined by a common root.
Like them.
