That Day of Glory

That Day of Glory

That big blazing fastball came on up to see me
As big as a watermelon for what I could see
On that glory day I was the king who ruled
A wise man too wise to be so fooled

The ball talked to me as it came to the plate
Take your swing and not a moment too late
Hit me as far as you can on your day
I’m here for a moment so do what I say

I reached down inside my arsenal so deep
Prayed to the Gods for my soul to keep
Give me the strength to hit it out of the park
I am the fire and thou art the spark

I took the swing and met the ball on the head
With help from the Gods as the spirit led
High over the fence it sailed out of sight
Mustered up my strength and all my might

Not only once but three times on that day
Days like this come, then they all go away
Back to the minors I went with my memory
When I was the hero so that is my story
