The Dream, by Henri Rousseau
Robert L. Martin

The Closer The Pure

Music and sound the closer the pure
When heaven is on nigh le grand amour

Beauty fades twisting around corners
Through currents and stolid transformers

No bending, no shedding, just straight ahead
The path of beauty as the prophets foresaid

Just the wind and the rain to get in the way
As nature smiles along the barren highway

Fragile voices remain fragile at the end
No electric surge up and around the bend

Singers sing alone in the naked air
The purer the sound no ornamental flair

Close to heaven they sing from their heart
A song of beauty and purity from the start

The closer the pure
Le grand amour
