Saints and Mothers

Saints and mothers together from the same mold,
our refuge for us to go and get out of the cold;
and when the walls of our world start to crumble,
they hold them up before they break and tumble.

Mothers of our own and saints of heaven sent,
to them we honor and rank so eminent.
They gave us life and watched over you and me
and kept us out of danger with their chivalry.

When we begin to fall, they keep us standing,
aware of our trials and faulty planning.
They wipe our tears with a saintly touch,
and for their concern we owe them so much.

Every day is a special day for them we honor,
for the days of now and the days of yore,
for mothers who gave us life and all the rest,
and the eternal saints who arrive at our request.

I wrote this for Mother's Day to recite in church.
