On the Rebound

A slap in the face, a heavy blow,
We stood up with much to show.
We the resilient, the brave, the strong,
Picked up the pieces all along.
The prey of the Taliban never ever more,
We became the hunter, the matador.

They ran and hid like little lambs
As we hunted them down on their lands.
Weaklings run and hide we found.
The strong and resilient go on the rebound.

This poem was written for The Belt and Beyond magazine for the 911 issue.
