Opening day, as rookies begin,
‘Tis Time to get ready and time to dig in.
On the mound while nerves are frayed,
Wish that feeling would go away.
First pitch, a fastball right over the plate,
No dipping nor curving,
Just up ahead straight.
It sailed out of the park and onto the street,
A major league welcoming
Without missing a beat.
Some rookies go and run and hide,
While others push ahead right in stride.
Two to one was the final outcome
As this rookie bounced back and won.
Good going rookie, you passed the test.
You gave it all, your very best.
