Robert L. Martin

Humor's Vessel

Humor’s Vessel

He travels along his sacred roads
To tired old dignified churches
With his jokes in his pockets
And his smiling face above all
For heaven is full of humor

What words can’t do, humor does
When it bypasses the intellect and
Goes straight to the heart

It connects mankind to the
The passion of God without
Any discernment getting in the way
The meaning of joy,
That sacred feeling
Is understood by everyone

What religion tries to explain
In countless pages of
Countless books
Humor explains it in one joke
By opening up the senses
To let the spirit of God in

Laughter is the best way
To bring everyone
Closer to the Almighty
As humor’s vessel brings
The word loud and clear
As he travels along his sacred roads
