Study of an Old Man in Profile, by Rembrandt
Robert L. Martin

Geezer Magic

Secrets of the magician lie within,
too high and mighty for us old geezers been.

Computers and cell phones in the maze,
magic unexplained in the purple haze.

Fairies dancing inside the magic phone,
doing the jitter bug on their daily roam.

The real examined but no where to be found,
the air is stocked full of magic all around.

A mystery for us old geezers to try to solve
with jargon speaking in its scattered scrawl.

Beset by geniuses at the helm of the ship,
a language passed on that follows the script.

Us poor. poor old  geezers left on our own
to just sit still and cry and moan.

How do I find what’s behind the magic?
How do I make a phone call so quick?

How can I talk to geniuses and find the way
when they run too far ahead every day?

Old geezer magic, it’s all to me,
drawn into a maze I come to be

a victim of all the known unknown,
an idiot trying to make a phone call alone.
