Note: Poem “La Aurora” written by my grandfather, one of many he did. He wrote mostly about Christian ethics. I included this short poem in my page as requested by YTHall, a new friend, who writes in Castilian here in Poeticous.com.
La Aurora
Brilla al fin entre celajes
del firmamento la aurora,
y con sus reflejos dora
los esplendidos paisajes;
los verdinegros ramajes,
toda natura a porfía,
lucen tras la noche umbria,
su rutilante verdor,
su corola abre la flor,
saludando al Nuevo dia.
[En verso de Jose Gonzalez Reyes, 1913]
Dawn
Dawn peers at last
among the clouds of heaven,
its reflections splendor
to landscape bring;
Green and black branches,
to all nature it persists
shines after the dark night,
It’s verdant greenery
it’s crown of light opens the flower
Greeting the New day.

7aNelson, this is very very nice. The type of stanza is called "décima", invented by Vicente Espinel in the 17th century. Décimas have ten verses with consonant rhyme and pattern abbaaccddc. I'm going to rewrite the poem here to correct a couple of accents that were missing and remove the separation between verses. Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem that is part of your heritage!

7a@Y. J. Hall: Thank you so much for loving it! How I wish my beloved Grandpa is here with us to share your appreciation of his work. And how I wish I could write in yours and his language. Thanks agin for liking, Y.J.Hall

7a...that’s “...again not agin...” Also thanks for introducing me to Vicente Espinel and John Yau. John Yau has a soul all his own, I must say. :-))

7a@Nelson: Décimas are very popular in Cuba, much more so than in Spain. They are the typical stanza used in traditional Cuban country music. The following video is an example of a Cuban "controversy", where two poet/singers improvise Décimas responding to each other: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO6qvIYR6nA

7a@Y.J.Hall: Thanks for this YJHall. I loved it. Can’t help but seeing my Grandpa enjoying this impromptu decima exchanges. You can see Justo Vega composing his responses with his facial expressions. A new experience for me, very interesting. I felt a little bit more close to my Spanish ancestors. Thank you again. I will share this with my family and cousin Derek.

7aYour grandfather was a fine poet. He says so much in just a few words, brevity.

7a@Robert L. Martin: The one thing I remember him the most aside from being a really good person is that during family reunions after a big meal and before dessert we the kids are gathered seated and my grandpa with his bag of coins would throw the money scattered all over. Imagine the scene from the many grandchildren he had. :-)) A family tradition I try to continue with my two grandsons! Ha! :-)) Thanks Robert. My favorite word too...brevity.
