Young man at his window, by Gustave Caillebotte

High and Low

There’s a time to be up high,
And a time to be down low,
But in between, we wonder why,
We must constantly ebb and flow.

One moment we’re soaring,
On top of the world,
The next, we’re imploring,
For our dreams to be unfurled.

But then we feel guilty,
For feeling so low,
We should be more mighty,
With our energy in tow.

We beat ourselves up,
For not giving our all,
To our work, our cup,
Must never be too small.

But in this endless cycle,
Of ups and downs,
We forget to revel,
In life’s simple crowns.

For there’s beauty in the rise,
And lessons in the fall,
It’s all just a disguise,
For our true strength to call.

So let us embrace,
The moments of high,
And learn from the space,
When we’re feeling shy.

For there’s a time for everything,
A time to be up and a time to be down,
But through it all, we must keep singing,
And never let our spirits drown.

So here’s to the ups and the downs,
And all the moments in between,
For they shape us into who we are,
And that’s something to be seen.
