When it happens
We can’t help but ask
What is déjà vu?
Since déjà vu destabilizes all of our working assumptions
Which boil down to
Materialism with linear time
A momentary lapse in the drudgery of that myth
Déjà vu leads us to one conclusion–
I’ve already experienced this in a dream–
That opens the possibility of another–
I’ve already experienced this in a dream
And this is a dream
To make matters worse
Or, better yet
To make the alternative to materialism’s monotonous drumbeat
Sound even better–
If this is a dream
Then there’s a chance we can wake up
In fact, déjà vu could be
The first stirring from our slumber
Ending the spell that was cast
To put us to sleep forever
By clamping our bodies in materialism’s full body cast
And closing our minds with the strict dictates of linear time:
Roaches check in, but they don’t check out
Big Brother, in the guise of the internet
Is here to check on us
Every second of every day
Assuring that our bodies and minds
Are sticking to a very tight schedule
But our souls send déjà vu to change the schedule–
This nightmare is over
As soon as we remember
It’s just a dream
What, then, is real?
I have the strangest feeling
That we already know the answer
Because we’ve already seen it
Déjà vu, indeed
It’s time for déjà vu in
Thought, word, and deed
