EARLY SPRING OBSERVATIONS

EARLY SPRING OBSERVATIONS

SWALLOWS SOAR IN THE LATE AFTERNOON SUN,
DARTING, SKIMMING AND WEAVING SEEMINGLY HAVING SUCH FUN.
ONE COMES MUCH CLOSER AND TAKES UP A NEARBY TWIG PERCH,
TAKING RESPITE FROM HIS ANTICS OF SEARCH.

THE SPRING AIR IS RICH WITH THE SMELLS OF NATURES REPEATED PROMISE,
AND THE FRESHLY FED WATERS ON THE RIVER YET AGAIN UPON US.
GREENISH BROWN IT RUNS WITH SUCH WILD ABANDON,
ALL THAT I SEE SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING IN SUCH PERFECT TANDEM.

AS I WATCH THE SWIRL OF THE WATERS AROUND THE BRIDGE PIERS FORM A PATTERN,
I AM MESMERIZED BY A SINGULAR WHITE PUFF OF FROTH RACING IN EDDIES TAKING COUNTER ACTION AS IF MATTERING.
THE WATERS SPARKLING THEN WAXED POLISH ARE CONSTANTLY CHANGING,
SOMETIMES IN SHADOW SOMETIMES IN LIGHT AS IF FEIGNING.

THE TREES AND THE FOLIAGE NOW BURSTING WITH BLOOMS,
THE FRAGRANCE AND COLORS CONSUME…
ME…WITH THE THOUGHS OF MY SINGULAR WORLD,
IN THIS TUMULTUOUS LIFE IN WHICH WE ARE ALL HURLED,

…AND I CONSIDER THE MEANING OF ALL,
THE SEEMLESS NEVER ENDING CYCLE WITHIN WHICH WE ALL FALL,
THEN THE SUNS WARMTH TOUCHES THE NAPE OF MY NECK,
ITS SOFT BRUSH REMINDS OF THE ESSENSE OF LIFE AT ITS BEST…AND TO  ENJOY IT… AND JUST KEEP IT IN CHECK.

A reflection of a spring afternoon 2013 on the Delaware River in Lumberville, Penn.
