Ink Blotter

The choice

Peering into the window
The scene beyond the glass
Brings tears to my eyes
The pain burns in my throat
As I hold back the sobs
Threatening to reveal my lies

The thin wall separating us
My heart full of cracks as
I watch the only men I’ve ever loved
Making new memories
A place I don’t exist

Smiles plastered on his face
As he embraces someone else
Sending her looks
He said would always be
Reserved for only me
But I know now love lies
My breath catching
My composure crumbling
As I break
The pieces shatter
And I realize I’m nothing to him
A distant thought on a rainy day

Tears never slow on the inside
Questions plaguing my mind
As I wonder what we could have been
If you had stuck around
If you hadn’t left.
If I had been enough
If you had truly loved me
If you had meant all you said

But now your gone,
A thin piece of glass between us,
But too far to grasp and gone for good

You made your mind up
You made your choice
And I’m not it
I wasn’t good enough I guess
And I will never be your plus one again
You found another to settle that score
And now I’m watching in the window
Starring at the future we’ll never have
Watching you make new memories
While time remains frozen in my heart
