Ink Blotter

The Falling Night

As the sun melts into the horizon.
The Moon– yawns as it wakes.

Sweeping ripples through the gentle water
Now a black abyss.
As silver jewels come to life
Poking holes throughout the sky.

The shadows– come to life
Dancing graceful figure eights
As they spring across the glassy surface.

The earth– sliced in two
Tip toes over the horizon
Anxious to catch the show.

The breeze– sings lullabies
The nearby willows swaying
As the wind hugs them with delight.

The leaves– flaming red, burnt orange, gold, and chocolate brown.
Carpet the dewy grass
As they run from the winds cold grasp.

The grasshoppers– invisible in the night
Lost amongst the spouting weeds - Sleep.

The crickets– whispers
play musical numbers.

The butterflies–
twirl and swirl
As they dance among the lightning bugs.

Here - time ceases to exist
Lost somewhere between day and night.
