Does Time Heal?

Way back, on the cracked pavement
Baking underneath the summer sun
The shadows cast in your wake
Spool in the silence like a smoking gun
The rough walls of that old house
The photographs on the mantelpiece
Those burning embers in the fireplace
Snatching away all my peace
Cracked photographs on mantelpieces
Scribbling on your wall like masterpieces
Countdown to your release from your cage
Showdown with the source of your rage
But now as you age, and you’re turning the page
You can’t delete what you did, and you can’t disengage
The lawn’s overgrown, the trash overflowing
Caught in the throes of your own reckoning
