A Sonnet... Just for Laughs
Tuesday, I woke up feeling like a teen
I moved! Knew I’m the wrong side of sixty
Counted my joints hurting, stopped at twenty...
I’ve got to get up now, I need caffeine.
Someone said exercise eases the pain
And so I did. Stretched my legs and my arms.
Cautious, I wish to trigger no alarms
Which my old body’s done time and again.
Bent my knees and elbows, push-ups, sit-ups
Flexed my toes, fingers and swiveled my hips
While I grimaced in pain, and pursed my lips
Wishing and hoping there’ll be no mishaps.
And so I’m ready to face the morning
It worked, now only ten joints are hurting!
