The Shape of Us

"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves."
Gautama Buddha

We’re shaped by our lives entwined
Through each bond, a path defined
Roots that anchor, guide, and grow—
Seeds of ourselves that we sow

Faith in God speaks within us
Giving hope through bonds of trust
Values shaped by faith’s embrace
Sheltered in God-given grace

Family molds who we are
Teaching love from near and far
Lessons built through time and care
Foundations that shape and share

Schools expand our growing mind
New ideas, there we find
Knowledge taught, both wise and bold
Guides our lives as they unfold

Society shows what we see
Differences, unity
From hardships to joys we hold
Stories through the years retold

Friends reveal paths we may take
Ties that life cannot forsake
They shape us in diff’rent ways
While guiding us through life’s maze.

Each bond leaves its mark behind
Shaping heart, soul, and the mind
Paths diverge, yet roots remain
Ties that even time can’t strain!

I wrote this poem in the format of a TANAGA. A tanaga is a traditional Philippine poem that is made up of four lines, each with seven syllables. Tanagas are often written in the Tagalog language and can use rhyme schemes like ABAB or AABB.
