The Epitaph

In a corner
Of the desolate and foreboding graveyard,
Lies a tomb with a remarkable marble headstone

The epitaph
Here lies a man. He got his just reward
A hard life he lived; he reaped what he has sown

Troubled,
I reflected on the epitaph I have seen
I audited my life; pondered what rewards await me

My life
Just too stained to restore its sheen
Too many mistakes I’ve made to think I’m worthy

Nevertheless
My last breath I have yet to exhale
Till then my God allows me to rewrite my story

And so …
With a grateful heart I’d remake my tale
I’d pray my epitaph will pronounce God’s glory
